MIAMI – Libertarian Party of Florida Chairman Marcos Miralles welcomes the mother of Democratic Socialist Congresswoman Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez to Florida and invites her to join the LPF!
“Blanca Ocasio Cortez did what anyone would do to escape a financially abusive environment,” Miralles said from his Miami home. “Welcome to Florida Ms. Ocasio-Cortez! Please leave those excessive New York tax policies behind.”
In a Daily Mail article Monday, Blanca Ocasio-Cortez revealed she left New York because she feared losing her home due to high taxation. Ocasio-Cortez is mother to U.S. Rep Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-New York, the youngest person elected to Congress. As a result, she moved to the Central Florida community of Eustis shortly before her daughter announced her candidacy.
“I was paying $10,000 a year in real estate taxes up north,” Ocasio-Cortez is quoted in the Daily Mail. “I’m paying $600 a year in Florida. It’s stress-free down here.”
Within weeks of taking the oath to uphold the U.S. Constitution, Ocasio-Cortez proposed a marginal tax as high as 70 percent on income above $10 million to pay for her “Green New Deal Resolution.” Additionally, she proposed forgiving all student loans, providing free public colleges and trade schools, and a single-payer healthcare system.
Florida has among the lowest tax burdens in the country, according to several evaluations done by Wallethub, both CNN Money and Fox News, and others.
