Description:

If approved, this would add an additional $25,000 Homestead Exemption tier for properties valued more than $100,000. The LPF recommends “None of the above,” because this does not address the root of the Florida property tax problem: the existence of property taxes themselves. Read more about the LPF’s Amendments 1 and 2 recommendations here.

Description:

This amendment will require Florida voters to decide whether to allow casino gambling anywhere in the state. This Amendment serves to make it harder to have responsible gambling. It really serves to limit gambling and prevents citizens to the choice to allow it. We recommend a NO vote on Amendment 3. Read more about our Amendment 3 recommendation here.

Description:

If approved, this Amendment would significantly increase the rights of crime victims, requires judges to interpret laws independently, and raising the mandatory retirement age for judges to 75. Incredibly, a single vote would give a thumbs up or thumbs down to all three, regardless of what you think about them individually. While there is much to like about some of the Amendment 6 proposals, there are also significant problems with it so we recommend a NO vote. Our Amendment 6 discussion is here.

Description:

With one vote, you will decide all four of the following: make the Florida Department of Veteran’s Affairs permanent; prevent voters in counties with County Charters to abolish, change terms, transfer duties, or eliminate election of the offices of sheriff, property appraiser, supervisor of elections, tax collector, and clerks of court; creates a statewide office of domestic security and counter-terrorism; and changes when the Florida Legislature meets in even-number years. There is much to decide here, but we conclude the negatives outweigh the positives, so we recommend NO on Amendment 10. Read our detailed Amendment 10 discussion here.

The Ban on Wagering on Dog Races Amendment would phase out commercial dog racing betting by 2020. We oppose all restraints on gambling and believe the public, not the state should “regulate” ethical gambling practices. Our Thoughts On Bundling Amendments

[av_textblock size=” font_color=’custom’ color=’#ffffff’ av-medium-font-size=” av-small-font-size=” av-mini-font-size=” av_uid=’av-jmu02esq’ admin_preview_bg=”]

Several of the these Amendments were “bundled” by the Florida Constitution Revision Commission. This means instead of one vote to decide a single proposal, the FCRC “bundled” two, three, and even four unrelated subjects together. We strongly disapprove of this practice. We think every item on the ballot is important enough to be considered separately. Read more about our multi-amendment thoughts here.
