Florida Libertarians denounce targeted killings of Dallas Police officers

Bradenton, Florida, July 8, 2016 – This morning, Americans woke up to the tragic killing of 5 Dallas, Texas police officers who were targeted by a sniper during a peaceful Black Lives Matter protest march. The Libertarian Party of Florida (LPF) condemns the actions of the sniper which are in an apparent misguided retaliation for the recent events of police in other areas of the country who have killed innocent black men. In separate instances in the last week, Alton Sterling and Philando Castile were gunned down by police in Louisiana and Minnesota respectively. Although the LPF is strongly against what the police did in those instances, the LPF denounces the killing of innocent police officers.

LPF Chair, Char-Lez Braden said this morning, “We resolutely stand against the use of violence to achieve a political end. What happened in Dallas is a symptom of a bigger problem, which is that law enforcement has strayed from its primary mission of protecting the rights of all citizens. I call upon elected officials everywhere to restore that mission.”

Also earlier this morning, Libertarian National Committee Chair, Nicholas Sarwark, did a live feed on Facebook saying, “Killing people doesn’t fix killing people. It is terrible that people would decide to sully their memory [Castile and Sterling] by killing police officers who were providing the security at a protest in honor of the people who died.” He went on to say, “You can’t murder innocent people because innocent people got murdered.”
