Libertarians Say “NO” To Additional Government Task Force

Libertarian Party of Florida Wants HB 1 Voted Down

Winter Park, Florida - The Libertarian Party of Florida (LPF) is reacting to an upcoming vote in the Florida legislature concerning House Bill 1 and its corresponding Senate Bill 928. The proposed law would increase the bureaucracy in the failed war on drugs within Florida.

LPF chairman, Karl Dickey said today, “The creation of yet another task force, yet another expense on the public, and yet another trampling of our citizens' rights to live their lives as they choose. This will be another avenue for our government to impede individuals and businesses right to privacy. Soon, I suppose, our government will ban spoons and straws. To suggest a task force is going to keep drug paraphernalia from the hands of drug users is absurd. The government has failed in its war on drugs just as it has failed in its war on poverty and its banning of alcohol. Our government has fallen away from its principles and we must direct it back to what is right, not what is politically expedient. The one good thing that could come out of this task force is their realization that the drug war has failed and the best alternative is to end its prohibition.”

There is a large group of current and former law enforcement officers and judges that are leading a path to end the prohibition on drugs. The group's name is Law Enforcement Against Prohibition (www.leap.cc).
