President Obama Declares War on Free Speech |
|
If you've been listening, you’ll realize that the First Amendment, our Freedom of Speech, is under attack by no less than the President of the United States. During the State of the Union Speech the president declared war on the first amendment attacking the Supreme Court of the United States and the press.
When the Supreme Court upheld the right to freedom of speech, for all not just some, Obama declared it a priority to fight to limit what and when powerful unions can speak. Concerning the SCOTUS' decision to allow Labor Unions and other groups of people to express political speech near elections, Obama said, "I can't think of anything more devastating to the public interest." WOW! The act of individual people pooling their money together to finance political speech during election season is "devastating to the public interest." Isn't that exactly what the first amendment is supposed to protect?
Obama listed some of his enemies in the State of the Union speech last night. His enemies are not Islamists who vow to destroy western civilization and the USA specifically; he declared that "TV pundits" are the enemy.
I’m at a loss for words to describe my feelings when the President of the United States says people freely expressing their political opinions are enemies. "TV Pundits" have no real power, they don't have an army, they are not calling for violence, they can't make laws, they can't put people in jail, they can’t change taxes, and they aren't trying to silence those who don't agree with them, they are people in America exercising their first amendment rights. The only power TV pundits have is the power of their Ideas. If your opinions, looks and personality are popular enough that others are willing to pay you to broadcast them, and the President doesn't like what you say, then you're an enemy.
This whole enemies list smacks of leftist governments like the Cuba, China and former regimes like USSR, socialist Japan, and fascist Germany, which do everything they can to control the media and what ideas people are exposed. The last American president to declare the media as enemies was Nixon, who was routinely called and considered a fascist by the pundits. Nixon considered pundits enemies because he knew if he was exposed he would no longer be out of a job and powerless. What is Obama hiding if he has to declare that those who don’t agree with him are enemies?
If his ideas, policies, and actions cannot stand criticism, maybe it's because they are not what the people want. Obama has ABC, CBS, NBC, PBS, NPR, the NY Times, and most other major newspapers all promoting leftist ideas. Considering the huge left tilt of mass media, if the ideas expressed by one TV network and a dozen talk radio hosts can influence enough people to effectively stop his agenda, then maybe he should consider that the country doesn't want his fascist implementation of European socialism. In the battlefield of ideas, Obama's ideas, and the left's ideas in general are losing. Declaring TV pundits "enemies", during the State of the Union, is the act of a desperate man who has lost control of the message, and fears being exposed.
Our democracy depends upon free speech, not just for some but for all, that includes TV Pundits, or bloggers, or even corporations and labor unions. -- Reprinted with permission by Tom Rhodes http://lpcitrus.blogspot.com/2010/01/president-obama-declares-war-on-free.html |

Immigration Policy, a Libertarian Perspective |
America is still the shining city on the hill of which Reagan spoke. Tony Blair once quoted of America: "A simple way to take measure of a country is to look at how many want in... And how many want out." Hundreds of thousands of petitions for immigration are received every month by the US Customs and Immigration Service. This demand is indeed a poignant measure of American greatness. Libertarian candidate for U.S. Senate Alexander Snitker knows that the freedom Americans enjoy is a magnet to the best and brightest around the world. Snitker realizes that these highly skilled and productive people are a new infusion of blood, keeping the heart of our nation beating strong.
Snitker and the Libertarian Party know that people follow laws in part because the compliance cost is less than the penalty if caught. Americans are well aware that upstanding individuals who abide by law are denigrated by those who would rather not follow it. When those who break the law and enter the country illegally are given equal footing with those who follow the rules, it encourages others to do the wrong thing. It is impossible to keep all people out with physical obstacles like fences and armed patrols, but the law can be a much more stalwart barrier. The proper combination of incentives and penalties will work to increase compliance and reduce the number of illegal immigration attempts. With policies that respect those who play by the rules and punish those who do not, those seeking the freedom of the United States will be more likely to follow the law. America is still the dream of many and shining beacon of freedom. Libertarian candidate for US Senate Alex Snitker will work for you to make sure it stays that way. Sincerely, John R. Thompson |

Libertarians Call for Democrat Party Chair Karen L. Thurman to Step Down |
|
I was amused to see Florida Republican Party Chairman Jim Greer announce his resignation because it likely represents no change at all, and even if it does mean a substantive change in the Republican Party it very likely won't be one in the direction of liberty if recent history is any guide.
In his resignation latter Jim Greer cited "the conservatives" as a prime reason for his leaving. It is important to note that when Jim Greer says "the conservatives" what he really means is "those few Republicans that are sick of people like me, Charlie Crist, John McCain and all the other democrat lights who only oppose big government spending when we're not the ones doing it."
OK, so that's what he says, but his own people say his lack luster efforts at fund raising and dubious party spending are the real problem.
Either way, he should go.
While the GOP is doing some house cleaning it should also do some soul searching, and perhaps some reading of the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, and lpf.org for good measure.
The only bad news is that we have to wait until February 20th to actually see him depart. Talk about the longest exodus you've ever seen.
What does all this have to do with the Democrat Party Chair and why are we calling for her to step down? Solidarity. The Republicans and the Democrats share so much in their ideology that she should immediatley step down, as well as resign her position in the US congress, to help show her GOP tax and spend friends that she hasn't forgotten them.
So please, call Karen L. Thurman at 850-222-3411 and ask that she please step down. Char-Lez Braden |

Calling all Freedom loving people, On Jan 19, while the bicameral uniparty was busy pretending to hold an election for the Senate seat in Massachusetts, the Libertarian Party of Manatee County was holding a candidates symposium. The room was packed! We had participants from Sarasota, Orange and Pinellas county as well as from Manatee. We had Libertarians and Non-Libertarians present. The energy was really something as the Libertarian Party showed its unity of purpose and growing strength. Speaking at the event: and as a special surprise, Kimberly Light announce she would be running for Florida House district 67! Our message is getting out. Our strength is growing. It was especially poignant that we had so many new faces that came to hear our message and meet our candidates. FUND RAISING?!? You know it! The event raised some money for the candidates and the Manatee affiliate. This is a huge sign of just how far things have progressed. It's one thing to have people attend a meeting, and another to have them start donating their hard earned money. Also, of no small importance, the Manatee affiliate is now one year old and elected officers for 2010: - Char-Lez Braden (Chair)
- Thomas Mielcarek (Vice Chair)
- Paul Valentine (Treasurer)
- Kimberley Light (Secretary)
Manatee is on the march! Join us in securing liberty in our life time. |

March of Liberty Takes Another Step |

The Libertarian Party of Hillsborough County hosted a Candidates forum on the 13th, and it was a rocking event! We had a packed house of freedom loving people participate, and many candidates attending including: Alexander Snitker (US Senate) John Wayne Smith (Governor of Florida) JJ McCurry (Lt. Governor of Florida) Thomas Snider (US Congress District 12) Jeff Shoobridge (State House Seat 42) Joe Haynes (State House Seat 51) The Hillsborough support was very energetic and eager to move the party and the cause of Freedom forward. The county, like the party, is committed to doing what it takes to push back the socialist state, and they starting right at home as all good movements do. The county leadership is focused and ready and has started executing the 2010 election plans. |

Obama Orders End to Individual Rights |
|
Two weeks ago, President Obama signed an executive order that makes an international police force immune from the restraints of American law. Until then Interpol's property and assets were subject to search and seizure, and it was bound by the Fourth Amendment, FOIA, and other limitations of the Constitution and federal law that protect the liberty and privacy of Americans. These limitations prevent the government authority from becoming tyrannical.
Consistent with his Marxist actions, following the historic practices of other Socialist/Marxist leaders, on Wednesday, December 16, 2009, President Obama issued Executive Order 13524 to do an end run around the constitution and eliminate the constitutional restrictions that protect individuals in the United States. This single Executive Order allows a government agency that is not accountable to the US citizens the right to ignore constitutional limits and have virtual unlimited authority over the people of the United States. Interpol's property and assets are no longer subject to search and confiscation, and its archives can no longer be touched by the US citizens. Interpol's U.S. headquarters are in the Justice Department in Washington D.C., Why would our government allow or want police data to be stored in the Justice Department and not be suject to US Constitutional restraints? Why is it necessary to have a government agency (not a US agency), to be exempt from constitutional limitations? How can any "police" be exempt from the protections the constitutions offers to it's citizens? Interpol can now use illegal means to gather “evidence” against US citizens, arrest US citizens, and prosecute us without any of our normal constitutional protections.
This has to be the scariest disregard for the individual rights of people of the United States thus far Obama has shown. Obama took an oath swearing to "preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States." This action not only doesn't preserve, protect and defend the Constitution; it clearly weakens and is designed to get around the constitutional restrictions on government authority.
This can only be described as a violation of his oath and an act of treason. -Tom Rhodes Copied with permission from: http://lpcitrus.blogspot.com/2009/12/obama-orders-end-to-individual-rights.html |
